Report: Chickamauga Lake crappie 10/21/2015
After a visit to the dentist this AM, I hit the lake with a friend for a few hours of crappie fishing on the Chick. Weather was perfect. Water temp when I checked was 66.3 degrees. We found the fish to be slow to bite and very deep, about 20 feet over stumps and brush. I landed 12 keepers and we had twice that many short fish. Not a great day, but all fish were caught off shore except one keeper. It was caught under a dock with about 15 feet of water under it. The fish was right on the bottom. Grin. I know that the docks are loaded with fish at this time and I could probably catch more fish if we fished some docks, but I am so hooked on off shore structure, that I had rather catch fewer fish there than more under docks and dock shooting is fun. Grin.
1/16 oz jig heads with Bobby Garland Mo-Glo Blue Ghost and Crystal Shad were the best colors, although we did catch a few shorties on other colors. Wind was calm, glassy calm in some areas.
