Very jealous!! Nice! I'd love to fish there, just quite a ways from home!
I admire a man that knows his go to bait.........nice catch JROW
2-6 ft of water has me thinking that I often fish too deep. How do you find the depth at where they are holding? Do you fish light jigs with a slow fall and adjust your depth if they bite them on the fall? Fish multiple rods with different depths? See them on your fish finder?
Would love to know how you start off locating them.
nice catch
Bman350, Black Lake where I fish at is only 10 - 15 feet deep. I only fish the Grey Ghost in the 1/16 oz size. I fish with a 10 foot bucks graphite jig rod (one at a time) and let out 9 feet of line. Ninety per cent of the time I never feel the bite I see it when the fish takes the bait on the fall. Sometimes it gets down only a couple of feet, sometimes it gets down 9 feet and then you get to feel the thump or a tap tap when they hit it. The trick to fishing the little grey ghost is watch the line like a hawk. I don't hunt fish on the fish finder , I hunt for structure that will hold fish. I also put out lots of willow tops so I will know where to fish. I have fished Black Lake just about my whole life so I know a few places on it to fish (I am 69). So if you ever fish the grey ghost (best jig ever in my opinion) watch the line like a hawk, if it goes the least bit slack set the hook (you might catch a leaf, shad, or lily pad) but most times it is a crappie. Good luck.
nice haul there, I'm a little jelly. i have been starting to like hair or tied jigs myself. i have also been looking for places to start dropping habitats judging on water depth. i really don't like having to always look and try to interpolate a fish finder, i would much rather have way-points for structure piles that i set myself.
