Made that trip to Greers Ferry
I went down on 9/11 and came back 9/14. Did some sightseeing, relaxing, talking to people. It's as pretty as they say it is.The weather was AWESOME for just being downright pretty to be out (I usually catch fish on the worst weather days though). I fished three afternoons with the wife.I decided not to try and figure out a crappie bite or target suspended fish over deep water.I just fished the shore, some islands, and some structure.Threw small jigs on light spinning tackle.I did not keep exact count but caught 50 or so smallmouth and spots 12 to 15" (man what a hoot). Wife lost a smalley would have went probably 20 inches. She caught about a three lb channelcat casting in the shallow water around an island.NO crappie.
Talked to some guys each day on the ramp and one on the water (very few people were out, practically had the thing to myself) they showed me some places to fish and told me they do catch big crappie but it can be tricky.Over all fishery has declined...but once you know what your doing on that deep, clear chunk of water you can do some good.
Behind every hooked bass was another about the same size.Everytime you reeled in would be four or five small bass following and nipping the tail if a larger bass wasn't there.Bass future has to be good.Fish very healthy.NOOOOO Asian Carp whooohooo.
I had a 15 " spot on and was watching the fight at about ten ft depth. The jig popped out of its mouth and the one following it grabbed it and I caught it.
I'll be back.....maybe Mountain Home next and check out that area. I think me an Arkansas will be a good fit.My Dad told me one time our family came to Missouri from Arkansas,I think Mt.Ida area? Dad's been gone some years now can't remember for sure.Maybe someday I just need to go back.
I really can't express what an enjoyable trip it was..I mean relaxing and interesting.
Only down side is the gas exploration and wells....I'm not sure what to think about that
