Double minnow rig advice needed

Wanting to tie up some rigs and had some questions. First how long should I make the top line coming off 3 way swivel and could I make it a little heavier lb test to keep from wrapping around main line? Then how far down from swivel should egg sinker be and how far from sinker should bottom hook be? Was going to make them all 1/2oz , some double gnat with 1/2 oz weight and some with gnat on top and 1/8 oz jig on bottom with 3/8 oz weight. Now if I want or need to go up to 3/4 or even 1 oz in weight can I just take a 1/4 or 1/2 oz split shot and crimp it next to egg sinker??

Just me, but I use 12lb to tie mine just for that reason. I also use a #1 DuolLock snap on each dropper. That way you tie up a lot less rig's and can quickly change combos without having to swap out entire rig. Yes you can just use a crip on to add weight.

Never pretied any myself. I slip the first gnat on, ties one on the bottom, them a loop knot leaving bout a 6 inch tag line on the top one. Thena 1/2 punch pinch on weight half way between them. Dictabce to me is based on if I know how deep the fish are. If I have no idea, the I leave 18" between them. If I knowabiut how deep they are, only a foot.

Arkie 350 they work great and got a good wiggle, Now available in the 220 smaller body but packs the same punch as his big brother. Be on the look out for the new color coming this spring.

The line on my reels is 30# Power Pro with a # 4 snap swivel at the end. The rigs are 8 to 12# mono line. A loop at the top to go on the snap. 6 inches down a #7 snap is tied on. 6 inches down a 3/8 oz egg sinker. 12 inches down another # 7 snap is tied on. Split shot or pinch on sinkers can be added if needed.

This is how I do mine. I think everyone is a little different. But I would recommend getting some gnats from Donnie!

Just buy you some Capps and Coleman minner rigs and tie like those....Wont take but a few and you will be a expert!!

Attachment 214426I don't know if you can rd my writing but these are my measurements for the rigs I tie. I use 12 lb fluoro it seems to hold top hook out a little better. Hope this helps.

Over the years, my rigs have gone from being very intricate with multiple swivels and 3 ways and snaps. However, now I keep it as simple as possible and use a double drop shot rig with the sinker on the bottom most of the time. I shop around and look for stand out brand hooks or the swiveled drop shot hooks on sale but if not I simply tie gnat or standard minnow hook on with a palomar. The palomar keeps the minnow sticking straight out. Less crap the better I feel especially in brushier lakes. I do use the capps and coleman style with the dropper for more open water lakes like the BIg Four where I can spread the minnows out and let them wiggle a bit more naturally.
