Report: Watts Bar tail water 09/08/15
My brother-in-law and nephew from Cumberland county came down off the mountain to fish the tailwaters of Watts Bar dam with me this morning for white bass and anything else that would bite Foley Spoons. We had a blast. We caught about 110 white bass, (kept 3 limits), 1 nice Smallmouth bass (released), 3 Rockfish (1 too small to keep), and one skipjack. My inlaws have plenty of fish to eat for a while now. Grin.
WB was running 1 turbine until 10:00 AM and then turned on 2 more turbines. We fished until almost noon. We had our limit and the sun was beating down and we were all exhausted from reeling in all those strong whites against the current.
Here is how I had our rods/reels rigged. 6 lb test Suffix Mono on the reels. 1/2 oz egg sinker and bead ahead of a barrel swivel. Then about a 18-20" leader of 17 lb test fluorocarbon line. It was the first time with my nephew and BIL to fish this technique. I could tell that they had a blast. Catching fish about every minute or so could spoil a fellow pretty quickly. I know this is a crappie forum, but I hope that this little diversion is entertaining and insightful.
