Labor Day with family
Had my son's family with us over the weekend along with my older son and his daughter for several meals over the holiday. My two older ones from Atlanta wanted to go on a dove shoot, but we could not get the hunter certification done in time so they settled for a trip to Santee. Everything looked fine until we got to the lake and found the wind howling. We got a good breakfast and some minnows at the Stumphole Store and gave it a try. it was impossible to hold the boat steady enough to jig the brush piles without dropping anchor. That is a pain in the butt, but we managed to fish a few piles and my grand daughter caught 3 nice crappie, 2 smaller ones and a hungry bream that ate a minnow half his size.

Inkdabber came over with his wife to fish also. I could not figure out how he was managing to fish in the wind, but I noticed he had his TM deployed. We finally called it quits and hit Stumphole for a hot lunch. My curiosity got the better of me and I watched Ink long enough to realize he was long lining with 6 or 8 lines out. If you are at all familiar with the Stump Hole area you know there are about a zillion stumps just under the surface so how he managed to not snag every jig he had is a mystery to me. I did see him land a couple of fish so he probably did pretty good.
I thought it was him when I saw he boat but when I first saw him there were two people in the boat and when we got to the store I could see only Ink fishing in the back. I solved the mystery though when I looked through my binoculars and saw Ms. Sandy sound asleep on the front deck. Guess you got her up to early Tim. :Rofl
We had a great time with the kids over the weekend. We even got the 3 year old to try out the boat.

I got to do something about that nasty shirt his Momma put on him though. He wears both USC and UGA outfits so he probably will get confused and go to Clemson. :banghead
The little fellow will not come to visit without a trip to Dooleys for breakfast so we got that done this morning. They headed back to Ga after lunch and we got a call letting us know they were home safe. No matter their age, you always worry about your children when they are on the road.

Check out the little one's expression. Think he is having fun?

Good report Ray! Yea, long lining in shallow, stump infested waters can be a bit trying on ones patience. Add 10 to 12 knot winds, it will make you say some bad words. But I was catching some quality fish, so sacrificing some jigs was well worth it. Once I got all jig heads converted to 1/32, hang ups went down dramatically. I even got Mrs. Inkdabber up from her slumber long enough to catch a few nice fish too.

Thanks for sharing your weekend with us. Good looking kids you got. Family gathering always mean a lot. I had all my kids and their kids for the weekend. It was hard to find some food after they left. LOL But I welcome them back any time!:highfive

We had a few left overs to nibble on, mainly cole slaw and baked beans.Sho wasn't any fish or cake or pie left. Love to have them all over for a visit, but if I had to feed that crowd every day, I'd have to find a better paying job.
