Now using the HB 598ci HD SI and looking to upgrade to HB 999ci HD SI. What is the width difference between the two SI pictures? How much better quality of picture will I get? I'm a once a week fisherman and need to stay below $1200.00. Thanks

VERY GOOD DEAL ON 1198 AT BBG
For the 9" model, I would wait and get the Helix 9.....MSRP is supposed to be $999 and it will be the current model, not an outdated model .... and has the fix for the dreaded white info boxes that the 999 may or may not get.
I bought a 1197 on sale when the 1198's were coming out and that turned out to be a mistake .... Don't get me wrong, the 1197 is a great unit.....but it doesn't support some of the newer accessories even though it has Ethernet.
I have the 999 and love it but man do I wish I waited the deals on bbg are crazy right now I think they are going for 900 right now. But for the difference in picture from what you have right now I can't help but I know you will be happy with the 999 and if you can afford bigger go for it I'm saving now to get the 1199 or the Onix then moving my 999 to the bow. Good luck
I ran a 787/797 for a total of 6 years and a 798 for 4.
The 598/798 are 640x640 pixels, the 999ci HDSI is 800x480.
From a vertical point of view the 598 has the better screen resolution, which most folks don't have issue with.
You'd be comparing 800 horizontal against 640 horizontal pixels - which certainly is a step up.
Bigger & wider is better for SI - when I am searching on the trolling motor I like to split the SI beams between the 899 and 859 via network = 1600 horizontal pixels ups the game even more.
I'm sure you can get a few bucks for the 598 - but the better display and superior processing power of the 999 would suit you well, if you decide to wait for a Helix 9 you'll have more software bugs to iron out - and the 999's "fairly" mature as far as it's software will get upadted a few more times in the next year or two. The Helix will get much more attention - but the bugs can be a PITA and some guys need to weigh their patience.
I don't think my 798 ever did this.......

I agree a 999 would be a huge step up. You would see a difference right away. Got to be careful going after the new thing on the block. 999 is proven and easy to use. You can get it for $899 with a remote. That's a steal.
No kidding that's a steal I paid 1300 just 2 months ago and that was with a $200 rebate.
The gps is great also here is a picture were I couldn't see more than 30 yrds in front of me and I had to navigate through old hedge rows I feel good going out in this weather because of this unit.
