Lake Meade several times this week
My buddy and I hit lake Meade Sunday. We were in a bass tourney, but they were off and we made the mistake of trying for crappie for a few minutes. That was all it took. The crappie were playing great and we waxed them in 4-9 FOW. Fish bit many colors, but I believe they favored the Tennessee Shad version of the triple threat from Uncle Josh lures. We ended the day with 22 keepers with several over 12". While we didn't keep count, the total was easily more than 50.
My son is I town, so the three of us decided to try again Wednesday. We actually started in Cohoon, but it appeared to be the dead sea, so we went back to our haunts on Meade. It wasn't fast and furious, but we caught fish doing about the same thing as Sunday, we just didn't get the size. We finished with about a dozen keepers and twice that many shorts.
Not wanting to miss a good thing, my son and I went back to Meade today and were met with about the same luck as Wednesday. I only kept five today with two over 12" and three at 11". We had a decent number of fish over 10", I just didn't want to keep them. As we found on Sunday, the fish hit about anything, but showed a particular interest in the Tennessee Shad.
Of note, I had heard from several sources that the City of Portsmouth has been spraying Meade for algae blooms. I could not confirm that until today. I saw the boat out there treating different areas of the lake. I've always been told/read that it doesn't hurt the fish, but I can tell you it sure puts them in a funk. I've seen it many times in other bodies of water. The treatment turns the fish off for some reason.
All-in-all we still had a good few days on the water and the weather was awesome. Oh yeah, it doesn't hurt to get some dinner in the process.
