Report: Chickamauga Lake crappie 8/24/2015
Everyone was busy today, so I just put in a couple of hours of scouting by myself this AM. I fished for white bass early on, but they were a no show. Actually, I had a bite on the first cast, but my line broke on the hook set. That usually doesn't happen with me. No more bites for the next 20 minutes, so I said phooey on the white bass and decided to go scouting for crappie. I checked several off shore places that I have marked, all the while looking for a big school of fish. I found a big school and caught two keepers out of it before deciding to go look for others. I know that I'm crazy for leaving fish to go find fish, but I get great pleasure in finding new schools of fish. Getting them to bite is an entirely different matter at times. Grin.
Along the way, I caught 3 small yellow bass to go along with the crappie that I caught. I released all fish to grow bigger today. I really don't need to keep any fish for a while unless it is is a big white bass or Rockfish. I caught my fish on a 3/32 jig head with a 2" Mo-Glo Blue Ghost BG shad and all fish were deep. You can tell by the one screen shot that I took, that the fish were 15-20 feet deep and the water temp was 82 degrees. You can see it on the pic. This structure is on the edge of a popular creek channel on the Chick. How many fish do you think are in this school?
