Green sunfish

I've always been fascinated by these fish. I grew up learning to fish on them in the mountains. Went to Lexington and fished the Maury Rv. Put in at Ben Salem wayside, paddled upstream to the slanted slates. Must have caught around 50 or so, kept 5 for dinner tomorrow night. Mixture of lures, jigs, panther Martin gold spinner, mepps. Panther Martin gold#1 was their favorite today. I know their not crappie but how often can you lip a bream.

I was just out on one of the area lakes this morning, with an ultra lite and a beetle spin like lure. Caught all kinds of bream, green sunfish, pumpkin seeds, bluegills, and red ears. Even caught a few small spotted bass on it. Had a ball before a thunderstorm ran us off.
i like those baby craw and baby beaver bodies they sell at Wal Mart.

Mark were you in the yak? Nice report. I hope go be out at bugs t his weekend.

T bet most of us started on sunfish of some kind. My start was pumpkinseed in the little lake that the CBBT crosses in Chesapeake Beach, before the bridge was bulit. I still think all the differernt sunfishes are some of the neatest looking fish in fresh water.

Years ago we ran into this old timer way up on the Nottoway and all he fished for was those yellow belly sun fish. He didn't want anything else.

They are cool looking fish. Thanks for the photos.

Great report Mark. I use to fish the upper James and as good as the smallmouth fishing was I would spend most of my time fishing for the bream. Some nice size to.
