Marking Waypoint with cursor

got a question about marking a brushpile with my DI/Sonar unit.....say im trolling along at 3-4 mph and I see some bruch scrolling across the screen from right to left....as its about it exit my screen i know ive already passed over it and not around the brush....but if I move my cursor over to the brush on my screen it will pause the scrolling....if I move my cursor over and pause it even though ive passed it and with my cursor over the brush on the screen i mark a way point...will that waypoint mark where the boat is at present time or will it mark it to where that brush was when i passed over it?

It should mark where the cursor is. That's the way mine work.

I do this all the time with mine.

So even though I've already passed that spot it will still mark that location if I just move my cursor to the brush on the screen? It will mark back where I passed it at instead of marking my current location?

Yes, it knows the GPS location of the picture on the screen. Now with that said, the best thing to do is go back at some point and find it with DI and remark the spot because it can be off a little.

As the guys mention ...

A sonar image is created one row of pixels at a time ...this is why the image scrolls ... Each new packet of data (ping) is plotted on the screen and the previous packet of data (ping) is pushed into the "History" on the screen ...

GPS coordinates are assigned to each single row of pixels as it enters the screen ...Effectively assigning GPS coordinates to the "stuff" that was within the sonar beam coverage at that very instant ...

The GPS coordinates that were assigned to that single row of pixels ...scrolls with that row of pixels into the "History" on the screen ...

So moving the cursor to anywhere in the "History" on the sonar image will have the cursor referencing the GPS coordinates that were assigned to that row of pixels ...

Anytime I'm out scouting for new territory, I will use the record option.(If you have the option) This way you don't have to worry about freezing the screen and possibly missing something else. You can go back and mark waypoints the same way during the playback of the recording. I fish a lot of different bodies of water from year to year, so having a tool that allows you to "remember" everything you saw is a great way to learn new spots and fish activity.

so instead of just hitting mark waypoint when something is scrolling across my screen...i should just move the cursor to that object and then mark it

Yes that would give you a more accurate waypoint.
