My cranking battery died on me when I was n Lake Washington a while back. This reminded me that I need a portable cranking battery. If any of you have any suggestions as to a charger that will charge both a truck and a boat I would appreciate your suggestions. I will say "Thank You" in advance.

I read recently about a portable charger that you could boost off a boat or car. It was lightweight and easy to stow onboard or in car. Here is one example. Cranking battery is nice for the car or truck but I like jumper cables in the boat better.
Left out the main thing, that ship n shore unit is a goodn.
Do your self a favor and get the biggest battery for cranking you can get. Then buy yourself a set of jumper cables instead and keep in the boat. That will solve your issue I bet. The same thing happened to me 3 x when I bought my boat until I upgraded to a larger battery. You can jump off the troller batteries if needed and you don't have to worry about keeping the portable battery charged either. Hope this helps.
I am going to take ABH's reply one step further, get the bigger battery. Then go to a battery shop or DI it yourself. Get a pair of Anderson plugs. Install #4 cable with ring eyes on the wires, install one to your cranking battery and one on your trolling battery ( if 24 system just positive and negative on one battery) wrap ends in electrical tape. Cranking battery dead just hook plugs together and crank. If ever doing this leave hooked up for a little while with motor running to put some charge back in battery befor turning it all back over to charging circuit. And las but not least do not forget to unplug when finished.

What I like about the portable booster is that you can keep it in your car/truck as backup for it and put in boat when you launch for back up there. But I agree with using big batteries for both start and TM on boat. I currently have jumper cables in both.
They make a diode that lets you hook your start and TM batteries together and when you run the OB it charges both batteries. Is restricts the current flow to one direction so you won't run down the start battery using the TM.
That is a good idea as well.
