Fishing lake Martin in a kaya - need tips
That title should say "kayak"
I have a motorhome and my family recently started going to Wind Creek State Park for getaways. We will be going next weekend and staying August 6th through the 9th. We also recently got some kayaks to cruise around in, but they are fishing kayaks, so I want to go out on a little expedition and try to catch some fish.
I'd like to catch crappie of course, but I have never caught any. I used to do a lot of bass fishing when I was younger, but that was mainly in a small pond where it was easy. I have never had much luck fishing in a lake. I have always tried to fish from the bank though. If I have a kayak, at least I can go to some spots.
Any tips you guys may have would be awesome. I will be in no hurry, but I would like to see some results. If live bait will get me more chance at fish than lures, I can do that. I bought some stuff for crappie fishing a few years ago, but I just don't know the basics of fishing it. I have some 1/8th, 3/16, and 1/4 ounce jig heads, and also some little curly tailed worms in plenty of colors. I don't know if I am supposed to fish these with a cork or without, and also, what kind of retrieve to try. I know that it is best to be over some type of cover. Other than that, I'm new at it.
I would really like to catch something, even if it just a pan fish or two to bring back and clean and eat. I have several rod setups with line up to about 10lb test, and I can rig them however I need to, I just don't know how to find and fish for crappie in particular on a big lake like Martin.
Thanks
