Engine is a 2004 50hp four stroke, f50tlrc. After idling for a couple minutes alarm sounds. No alarm when running though. Steady stream of "pee".
Any thoughts?

Since I have the same exact motor I did some reading. For sure could be water temp but also could be low oil pressure. The caviot to that is the Manuel I could pull up said if ( so equipped ) I take that to mean it may or may not have low oil pressure alarm. I would check my oil level first. If it has been a long time and lot of running on that oil I might change it. Check and see if you can find the temp sender and check wiring for being loose or rubbed. Where it might be grounding.
If it is a steady alarm it could be an early indication the impeller needs replacing. It's still pumping water but doesn't have the volume needed to keep the motor cool at idle. When you speed up, volume goes up. But like Cray said check the oil first.
I agree with Bill on this one. I don't have that motor but if memory serves me, a Mercury we had did the exact same thing. It did end up being the impeller.Quote:

It was the impeller, I pulled the lower unit off. Only had two and a half blades out of six. Got to replace the impeller housing also, it or one of the blades melted to the cup.
The "piss" stream is now better at idle then it was at full power. Rookie mistake on my part, I now have a log sheet for when I do what! Completely forgot to do the impeller. At least I caught it when I did! And this was 4 days before vacation!
