Word to the wise!!!!
Several of y'all are building or have built over here. Hire a home inspecter if there is not a local inspecter involved in your house. I had a lifelong friend build my lake house 2.5 yrs ago and I did not do this. I just trusted him to do a professional job. After the fire place rotted down I hired a home inspection done. He suggested a structural engineer , which I hired. Soooo now it's looking like about 60 grand to fix a 2.5 yr old house at minimum. Be smarter than I was!!!!!

Guess he ain't so much a friend anymore. That really does suck.

Attachment 209238 Here's a pic of how rotten the wood was. The cap ended up being two inches to small all the way around. Not a happy camper!!!! You could just stick your hand straight through the wood.

Sounds like the roofer is the one to me. Or siding guy

That sucks big time. Sorry for ya Bama.

Contractor had cap built. Chimney was only fifteen to fix. I have wall buckling I have to rebuild and one you can push out two inches. Either way if I would have had it inspected it would not be a problem. I would have not paid until it was corrected. I learned a lesson.

That's a mighty expensive lesson. I'd call my Friend and ask him about it. Not sure WHAT I'd call him until I got the answer. [emoji57]

Don't do business with friends or family. You're more likely to let stuff slide that you wouldn't with anyone else.
