Not much to show right now Jim. Just got through planting soybeans yesterday 7/9/15. Been busy since April and have not had much chance to work on it until now. We planted Milo and early beans in may, had a week to do a little work on it and then picked wheat from June 14 till the 23rd. Then burnt fields off and planted beans until now. Also had two 3" rains to make field work difficult.glad its over. Now I will get back on the boat. Going to take a day or two first to get some honey do's done and recover. 12 to 14 hour days for 7 days a week for 4 months takes its toll.
And they think a farmer has it made
We never burn't the fields off after harvesting wheat. Why do you do it? Kill insects?
Found that the straw puts out a toxin if the weather turns wet while trying to plant beans. Hurts beans seedlings and also burning off gets water off the fields faster and allows the ground to dry quickly. With a tight planting window late in the season, You can't afford to loose much time. Everyday planted after july 10 and Your loosing a bushel a day just from the calendar. We no till so have plenty of moisture most of the time anyway so wet weather can be an issue.CF
