Today I went in search of a few gills with a selection of 1/80 oz RB heads on a #8 bronze hook and tied with kip tail . We had a cool front move in and the temp was 60 degrees dead calm when I got to the lake. I started out with a float on both rods but soon pulled those to work at different depths. I tried to keep a rough count to change off jigs every 20 or 25 gills . All jigs seemed to work really well today. (Wax worms added) The larger fish were scattered out across the lake at different depths but were lots at 8-9' .
Some of the larger gills would come at just off the bottom at 14-16' with nothing showing on the sonar. I see that lots in these clear strip pits.
I saved 21 of the mid size gills. The rest I caught will be more wary next time. I haven't had gills for eating since the 4th. lol I took out at 3:00 PM with the lake still placid ..
