Anyone ever pulled any cranks in and around spring creek area on wheeler. Thought that maybe the channel area and also just off the side of the hump just out from the bridge might would hold some fish. First time trying it and was going to see if anyone has any success there, or if I needed to go else where. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Have fished from the bridge all the way to the very back end with cranks. It used to be our "go to" spot on Wheeler but it has had so much crankbait pressure in the past few years it is not as good as it used to be. There are still fish in there to be caught though.
Thanks for the info, I'm thinking about trying it maybe Thursday for little while. I'm new to the crankbait trolling but have trolled jigs before so maybe it wont be too rough to get the hang of. Thank again
It can be addictive. The bonus fish can be a blast.
Well ended up going to Gville at Browns creek. Didn't do much good, had 2 crappie, 2 cats, 2 stripe and 1 drum. Fished from 630 till 11. The wind blew hard out of the south, my boat scooped water over the bow numerous times. It was definitely a learning experience. Hopefully with more time on the water I will get better at it.
Hang in there P4586 ,you did about what my buddy and I did on our first attempt..........and you did catch fish!With the way the wind was howling catching any fish was good. You will see a better difference when you get to go and its not blowing a hurricane like it has most of the week out of the South!! a light breeze is ok especially when its hot , but these white capping days force you to look for sheltered areas which might be a good thing or a bad. Now the rains are coming!! Its rare but they have opened gates below Gville dam!!! almost never happens in Summer. and from the posted schedule they will be opening up more over the next 2 or 3 days as they got over 4 and 5 inches up in the Nickajack area which feeds its flow into gville!! I don't know how it will effect pulling cranks but it will create more current along the river channel and under water creeks.....
That's actually a good first trip out. This pulling cranks game is a little tougher to figure out than just regular jigs. Congrats on a good start. Keep at it.
