Ann's studio will be back in operation before long

Built a separate building for her many years ago (20+), one of my out buildings. Her friend wants to learn and will help to get everything in order, Ann years ago wanted to set up in my shop - told her it wasn't going to happen. Does very nice pottery, this kiln here is serious. Will make the breaker box hum:

Neat, we used to have a kiln when I was a kid and my mom and granny did ceramics. Thanks for sharing.

My sister had a couple and about 3000 molds. A lot of stuff to sell after she passed. But someone bought it all, in one bunch. My BIL recovered at least 5% of the cost.

Ceramics is where you pour slip (liquid clay) into preexisting commercial molds then fire. Ann doesn't, and won't, do that. She starts from bulk clay, and everything is created on the wheel. She likes the creativity part. I've tried the wheel a couple of times and it's a lot harder then it looks. I was very frustrated. It takes many months for a beginner to achieve uniform thickness, etc.

About 15 years ago or so, she left the workplace and did this full time at home for a couple of years. She's had pieces at a few galleries and did all the major festivals. Much of her work would go over $100/each. That expensive equipment has paid for itself 10 fold. I'll have her do a couple of pieces for the raffle at Toledo Bend.

I knew what you were talking about from the picture of the spinner. In fact we have a few of those pieces from a couple artist's in Tennessee. And I have a couple pieces that my sister gave me. Like them all.

Randy, I also knew what you were talking about and yes pottery is A LOT HARDER to do than ceramics. I was just saying that is what we had our kiln for. Definately not trying to take anything away from Mrs. Ann's amazing ability to work with pottery. Glad you are bringing some for the raffle, I would love to win one of those.

I think Randy is putting the cart before the horse. LOL Pillows and pottery. Sounds like I should retire and become a stay at home dog mom so I can get these things done. :) I got burned out pottery making and haven't done anything with it for 7 years. A friend is wanting to learn so she's agreed to help clean up the studio and I'll start giving her lessons. Maybe I'll come up with something interesting for the raffle. :)
