Report: Chickamauga Lake report. 6/08/15
What a beautiful sunrise that we had this AM on the Chickamauga Reservoir. Not a breath of wind and temps were perfect. Water temp was 80 degrees though. I had a report from a friend yesterday about boat paddle sized white bass at the dam area. So, that is the reason that I was down there early this AM. The white bass were a no-show, but we got a couple of keeper crappie to bite and the tiny largemouth bass were chasing shad all over the place. We did manage to hook about 8 of them, but most came off on the first jump. We stayed for a while hoping that the whites would show up and they never did so we went scouting upriver for a little while.
The lower end of Chickamauga has been like the dead sea for many of us for almost a year, but we did manage to find a very few fish. The highlight fish was a white crappie that nailed a 3" Bobby Garland 3" Slab Slayer in the bluegrass color. It was sitting on top of an underwater ridge with brush/stumps on it in 15' of water. It had friends, but we never could get anymore of them to bite. We had only planned to stay for a very short fishing trip, so about 9:30, we decided to go home for breakfast.
We caught fish on crystal shad colored Panfish assassins, Dappers, and BG shads. Most of our baits were tail lighted with chartreuse spike-it. I'm looking forward to another good crappie trip in the morning. I will be focusing on delta structures where I have located fish the past few days. I may even catch a trashy green fish or two. Who knows?
