My dad has been wanting to got to Reelfoot pretty bad for several years. We are going to head down 6-12 for the weekend. Only looking for Gills. Any Advice? Local Guide that could put us on them day 1? Gps? Marked Up Map? I would Literally take any advice! Fyi we are towing my boat down.

Been a long time, but last I fished the Airpark area in June me and a buddy caught dozens of good ones along any of the banks that had long grass edges at the water. Caught them all on crickets with float set to 1.5 - 2 feet deep up close to the grass.
Well Not the wealth of info Id hoped for! Ill grab a map tonight and get to planning.
I've fished the last 3 days getting on the lake around sunrise. The most I've come home with was 9 bream. I fished trees to the left of Champy's Pocket, the trees at the end of Horse Island ditch, Burnt Woods and a couple of other random places. I haven't talked to anyone who was having a whole lot of luck. Trees, shorelines or lily pads are the options but not sure which is best option. Wax worms on grizzly jigs is what I normally use but I try crickets occasionally. On a positive note my wife caught a 8" crappie yesterday and I caught a 6" the day before. Maybe they will be bigger next year!
We just got back today, Champy's Pocket seemed to have the best fishing. We managed to get a few decent gills, but it was pretty slow. I think the crazy weather this year has these fish all screwed up. The gills we did get were in 2-3 feet of water just outside of the treeline. We were using 1/32 oz black grizzly jigs tipped with either a waxie or cricket. Our best day we boated 25... I think we could have done better but between having an 11 year old and my wife who just couldn't get the whole straight in straight out thing down and was constantly getting hung up in the snags.. :banghead ROFL!
Don't go.
Reelfoot is pretty dead...years of poor-to-no management and hoards of out-of-staters have ruined it for a while.

Reelfoot is in a slump, a pretty tough one right now. Fishing the grass lines will produce a few fish and with the temps finally hitting the 90 degree mark, don't over look some shady spots on the deeper trees.Quote:
