Illinois gills

spent a few hours this a.m. chasing some Illinois gills. Males on beds. Females in deeper water full of eggs. Kept 22 decent fish, let all the big boys and girls go, some beasts I must say. Back home and fish cleaned by 930am. Lots of fun once I found em.

Nice mess of plump looking gills. Wife found a couple up here looking for crappie in deep water structure. We are at least a week behind you by the looks of things. Could see a few starting beds in the shallows.

Sounds like you are tearing them up .Should make for some fine eats. !

Just an observation in case your DNR laws are like ours. If you have the inflatable life jackets, unless you are wearing it they consider is as not having one at all and can fine you the same as for not having proper conventional jackets. Your laws may be different but wanted to give you a heads up. I did not know this and luckily someone pointed it out to me.
