I'd say size and profile first - If its too big or fonky looking or moving too fast then they definitely wont touch it. You get that jig in the right place and looking natural and that will get their attention no matter the color. The color is the icing on the cake. But....Thats one of those extremely variable things. Really depends on the water. Is it muddy, Deep, Shallow, Fast current, Time of year, What you had for breakfast, how many stickers are on your boat, or whether your wearing your lucky fishin hat...Just cant ever tell what theyre into that day..
I agree with progator I think sometimes the color does make a difference for sure but believe the size and profile is the main deal..........if only I could find some to test the theory
I've really been trying to establish some patterns. I've been fishing multiple poles with tandem rigs, minnows over jigs. The water I fish just seems to produce better on the black chart but the minnows always produce and they are always the same color.:dono
Sliders for long lining, curly tails and triple tails for tight lining and reserve your tube baits for jigging. Tube baits don't wiggle enough when they're being pulled or pushed. Not saying you won't catch something if they're the right color, but the action isn't there...

I mainly fish rivers and bayous and I think finding the right water is biggest factor and that changes almost daily .
I am no professional crappie fisherman by any stretch of the imagination. But I will give you my opinion anyway. 99% of the time I am fishing with either a hair jig or a lead head with a plastic body on it. The plastic bodies I use are almost always the Bobby Garland bodies. Most hair jigs have the same profile and with the Bobby Garland the profile stays the same.
With all of that said, about all I ever change is either color or weight of the jig-head. I have noticed that I can be fishing without a bite and change color and start getting bit. I also usually fish with 2 poles, with a different color jig on each pole, and have noticed that one color would completely dominate another color on a particular day.
Of course, as Mr. J_ROW has proven time and again, the Grey Ghost will and can catch fish anywhere.
This question be over my head.... I'm still trying to figure out how you can have same bait and depth on all your poles and have one just dominate the rest....
I think color is the most important item when I start my day. I will say that hair works better than everything else on some days. I always have a hair jig tied on one pole. BG baby shad and some kind of tube is always in the water no matter the time of year. The bigger the bait the bigger the fish. Just my 2 cents..
