not sure i have the right word on ''pitching'' or not.
i'm swinging jigs under a slip bobber, up to dock posts.
just curious if any of you, use specific rods for this, or if they make
rods just for pitching ?
i've been using a 7' L rod for this, and thought longer should, be better.
so i tried my 8 1/2 foot ML rod, and it was so much easier, and accurate.
so i guess i'll try my 10' ML next. and see how that works.

That is a accurate description of my main style of fishing. I'm pitching minnows or jigs under slip corks using a 8ft. BnM Ultimate rod. Also got a 8ft. BnM Float-n-Fly that I like to use also. Both are perfectly matched to that style of fishing. IMO

I've been playing around with that method as well. I've been using an 8ft BnM BGJP and it seems to work pretty good.
For me, it would depend on how far away from an object I was, as to what length rod I'd use. But, in most cases, at least a 8' rod would be used ... and that would be my BnM Duckworth FnF rod. If I needed the extra length, I'd probably opt to use one of my 10' rods ... either my Sam Heaton or my Huckabee Dipping rod.
You can make the longer rod outfits lighter, by simply using a UL reel ... as long as the reel can be placed on the rod to balance the outfit, which may require having a rod that has a Tenn handle (rather than a fixed reel seat). The reel is mostly a line holder in the case of flipping/pitching a float & jig rig. The longer rod just allows you to reach out a little farther, take up more slack on the hookset, and stay back farther from the object you're fishing around. It may also allow you to set the float/jig down into the water with less "splash" or commotion, if that's necessary.

yes, the longer rod lets me pitch farther , easier.
i went with a 3500 series reel to let the line come off real easy, so it will go farther.... but it is heavier.
i'll have to work on the balance now.

Waaaay too big a reel, IMHO. A wide spool or longcast spool reel in the 1000 series range would do the same thing, and weigh much less !!Quote:

I pitch with a 12ft slab shaker rod. I love it. I can drop the cork where I want up to 24 ft from the boat. I use it when fishing brush piles and lay downs. When trees are around I use a 9ft 8wt. fly rod.
