Anyone in Mid Ga do good carpet work on boats? Thanks for any help
i can do it in my shop i am in Fitzgerald . Strickland Upholstery
I've got a related query - Mine is a 1990 model Procraft with aluminum deck lids. Now am I an idi*t for trying to glue the old carpet back onto the aluminum compartment lids? Is this just a quick fix band-aid solution that should be avoided in lieu of replacing the carpet all together? The carpet itself looks in good condition from the top side. It seems in the Georgia heat whatever the backing material is made of has disentigrated and hence has pulled up in certain spots.
As all of you know with an older boat this is an ongoing effort. The pop rivets holding the piano hinges have gone to popping off. One lid at a time I'm getting in there and replacing these silly pop rivets with nice stainless hardware. Should last another 25 years or so, huh? I'm currently on the rod box and being long and lean I noticed carpet peeling up from every side. Before reading this post I was contemplating contact cement or the like to secure the carpet before I replace the lid on the rod box. Now I'm not so sure. Please help with your input on this topic.
I am remodeling a boat right now and right in the middle of putting in new carpet. Regular outdoor carpet glue should do just fine but contact cement around the edges should fix you right up. Contact cement works great on the edges to keep the carpet from unraveling and keeping it securely in place. There ain't nothing to it Lamar, just take up the old carpet and put you some new carpet in there. Some outdoor carpet glue, contact cement and a good sharp knife and some physical work will save you a lot of $$$$. Check out this thread....http://www.crappie.com/crappie/flori...re-i-go-again/ I have recarpeted a few boats and it just takes a little patience and time. If I can do it, I know you can!!!
