how bout the oxbows
Several years ago we lived in Jonesboro and fished the Miss. river oxbows frequently. However in the last seven or eight years we have only fished them a few times without a lot of success. I do remember having our heads on a swivel dodging the carp the last few trips My question is, have the carp seriously affected the crappie population, and why? Have any of you caught many fish in recent years. I saw the river forecast today and it made me think of past trips.

I never see any reports on the chutes anymore. Crying shame. I fished one last year with crickets for bream ---- caught one baby if that tells you anything.

Carp keep the Bottom stirred up . Other fish can't seem to spawn. A couple of years ago AFC had a Fishkill and restock at Atkins. The buffalo got so thick the other fish died out.

I don't think Game & Fish really know what to do about them? But yes they are hurting the crappie bad in the oxbows. Probably other species as well. Im afraid its only gonna get worse before it gets better.

I wouldn't waste any time fishing those MS river oxbows.

My brother lives in Vicksburg and has fished them for years and he says they are like the dead sea. It took the biologist a while but they have come to the conclusion that they are the problem..

I think the White River ox bows are in the same situation.

the carp swim the the water like a vacuum cleaner and suck up all the plankton nothing good could ever come from them forsaking things!!
