Was I wrong to fish here?

Today I had a half-day to fish, so I went to Sardis. I read the fishing report from MDWFP (5/5/15 version) and they mentioned that they electro-shocked and found spawners in 1-3 foot of water.

I know that the report is a week old, but it's all i had to go on and I figured I could adjust if necessary.

I put in at Wyatt Crossing and fished the area just East of the ramp. The wind was pretty bad out of the SW so I stayed close to the ramp...I had no desire to run around a bunch in that wind. I fished 1 foot of water with a minnow and bobber up against cyprus trees and flooded brush. When that got no bites I moved deeper and fished the adjacent flat with the spider rig. When that didn't work I moved to the next big break...the river channel. I got nothing there either. I fished flooded timber in 5 to 9 foot of water...nothing. I fished several more bends in the river channel and after 6 hours of fishing...I had not a single bite all day.

Am I just in the totally wrong part of the lake for this time of year? Would y'all expect some fish to be in that part of the lake right now?

I started thinking maybe the spawn is over and they've just scattered. I saw no concentrations of fish on my graph the whole time.

Bite has not been the best for sure, but I've caught several limits and almost at least 10 per trip single pole fishing. They're just hard to locate and the spots you mentioned I would not be fishing. I was catching them shallow but the last few days they were few there. Spots I caught limits one day not a bite the next--kind of odd this time of year. Usually the males and or females will be in a few days at least. I'm still convinced more will move in shallow but Wed. the one's I caught were about 15 foot or so fishing 8 feet deep until the wind ran me off. Caught 3 in 30 minutes which was good to me. The best advice I can give is keep looking. I've been fishing it 40 plus years and learn something new each year. This time of year is always a mix. Some caught shallow and deeper. My two cents.

You did the right thing just wasn't the day.
a little bit to the left or right could have made a difference. A little bit of speed one way pr the other can make a difference as well. I often think should I have gone a bit deeper or shallower, should I have tried over there, etc. You just never know.

Caught the only limit this year fourth week in march in mouth of Black water creek, they were on fire. I haven't been back but shared the coordinates with a buddy . He caught fish there two weeks later(water was up some) they never seemed to move up . I think you were spot on as the area . Just a matter of finding the right slough . As a rule of thumb ,I always go deeper on a tough bite on Sardis . Just throwing that out there because 90 % of the folks on here know way more than I . we caught fish in march in 12 ft. of water fishing 2-3 ft. . deep .close to the shallow flats between Hurricane,/Black water . Go figure .:dono

It's been tough for sure. Your not going to go out there and catch one on every other stump. Try jigging 50 to 60 stumps then maybe you will find one. Better off going after bass or catfish. I go every chance I can only had 2 good weekends so far. This week I've caught 12 in 3 afternoon trips. All 1-3' deep there not coming in. Lake is dropping going to need some rain that will make it rise. When local guides are keeping catfish and white bass you know there is a problem. Just keep plugging away. I read the same report about shocking hurricane cove that my friend is so far from the truth it aint even funny. I was in there Friday and Saturday and got 5 in both days. Also heard another group shocked it Monday or Tuesday and couldn't find a fish. So go figure.

I have caught them shallow and deep,,,, Depends on what day, weather, winds,, ect, ect... fish just have been on the move,,, I really doubt if they are even close to spawning out,,,Try the opposite of where you think you ought to fish, and you,lol most likely do well,,,lol.... Just one of them years I recon,,,

I'm not big on waiting on fish to bite at a spot either. Even if I caught them there yesterday. They ain't biting, I keep moving. I may keep checking my "spots" but I don't hang around waiting on them to "start".
