I was sitting on the swing at holiday lodge boat ramp on yesterday and heard what sounded like gun fire and then a huge explosion on the south bank just due southwest of the holiday lodge. I mean it rocked the ground and hurt my ears all the way across the lake. Felt like a bomb. Anybody have any ideas?

Based on what you described I'd say someone shot some Tannerite. It's marketed as an exploding target. You mix two parts together, then you have to shoot it to set it off. The more you use, the louder it gets. You can blow up just about anything you want with it...refrigerators...vehicles. You use enough and you can make a tremendous amount of noise and/or destruction.
Thats just my guess based on what you described...a gunshot followed by a loud explosion is exactly what Tannerite sounds like.
