Had some people asking about our spawn here in North Alabama. A month ago we were catching females that looked like they were ready to spawn then. Eggs were runny. We've caught females this weekend that have already spawned. Today we caught these all in the same spot. Water temp is 74 degrees. Eggs all at different stages. So Everybody's guess is as good as ours about when spawn is gonna be over, we pretty much thought it was until today.

is the spawn really over

This has truly been an odd year. The weather is all over the place, wind, rain, cold front...cold front, heat and crappie in the south with eggs?? Maybe we fisherman and the biologists have been wrong about the spawn. I'm gonna stick with my odd year theory.

You can find female crappie with eggs almost year round. Not all females spawn every year. Many never go shallow. When the time is over they still carry the eggs which are eventually re-absorbed by it's body. Google it.

milhare you are right but who knows if they don`t lay eggs into the early summer . like here there are a lot of wild chickens and from late january till on into the summer you see hens with little chicks following them .

I have caught crappie with eggs in them in very late spring and early summer. So I would say it is pretty common.
