Chickamauga Lake 5-3-15 - with Debbie
A good afternoon fishing trip in the pontoon Sunday despite a lot of boat traffic. We got out around 12:30 and went to check to see if crappie were showing up on some favorite post spawn spots...and they weren't. We went back to a good 'ol reliable spot lately...and they were !
We put a lot of big crappie in the boat around 12.5 - 13 inches with good weight to them. We're still catching some "very" dark male black crappie. Someone needs to tell these guys to slow down...the spawn is over. I had one dripping blood in my boat from it's mangled tail. We caught around 20 crappie and every one was an easy keeper but one. We used some minnows again to go with our jig arsenal. Most of the fish came in 10 feet with some deeper. I kept 5 for dinner.
Debbie lost a near 5 pound bass on 4 pound test line when her line brushed up against a rail. The tension on her line was so taut that's all it took and "snap" a big bass was gone about a foot from the net. We couldn't believe it. Just some very bad luck. Deb was depressed about it for awhile but started catching some big crappie and that took her mind off of it for awhile.
