Wanting to get another Lowrance gen 1 for the front of the boat and was wondering if all I need to link the two units is an ethernet cable? Going to add an external antenna also and was wondering what antennas are compatable with the gen 1's.

If you have SS box, just use an Ethernet cable from the SS box to the 2nd unit. If no SS, use an Ethernet cable as well.
As jimp said an Ethernet cable is what you need. Buy a Point 1, it's a antenna/heading sensor, it will work with a Gen 1 even with it's slower processor. The Point 1 will require a NMEA network.
Link them via Ethernet so you can share waypoints. Point 1 adds great options to the system so link both locators and the point one
If you have an LLS module connect each locator to it. You will still need a started kit for Nmea to add the point 1
