Going to Santee, STump hole Tuesday and need suggestions.

I am going with my father in-law Tuesday to Stump hole and was wondering if we need to target the crappie or shellcracker. I just put a new Lowrance Elite 5x on his boat last weekend and he has been trying to get used to it. He went some last week and caught a few in Jack's Creek. I would appreciate some input from Inkdabber and other locals as to whether we need to fool around for crappie or just target the shellcracker. He says the water is up and we can do either...what do you think would be the best bet to get on some fish? I need to know how to rig. Thanks in advance. BTW we will be in his Bass America with a 40 Yamaha if you see us give a holler.

I was down there last week and most all the fish I heard of being caught were around the Jack's Creek area, mostly because the lake around Stump Hole is high and very muddy. The best advice I can give is if you want a good meal and a killer piece of homemade pie, eat at the Stumphole Landing. Dave and Dee do a super job as owner/operators.

You are a funny man Ray, reading your post made me laugh out loud. As the lake settles down over the next few days, the fishing should get better and better. The shell crackers will be on the bed, all you got to do is find them. The ones I caught were buried deep in grass, very hard fishing. Not a technique for everyone. The crappie fishing in general has been pretty tough here of late, with most fish in post spawn mode and holding tight and deep in wood and grass structure.
