Hook it up to a battery & turn it on ... everything should work except the depth/speed readings.
I have a portable jumper battery & an extra power/tdx cord that I use to add waypoints (from websites) and change settings, or simply to "play" with the menu screens to re-familiarize myself with what settings I can affect and how to quickly get to them. GPS, temp, and screen changes all work fine, even though I'm sitting in my home ... but, of course the depth reading (& speed reading) are not functional, since the tdx is out of the water & the head unit is stationary (internal GPS).

Put your ear next to the ducer, you should hear it ticking
Thanks.
All seems well.
It was not working well on the lake last time.
May be I can sneak out tomorrow and test it.
Without the proper equipment, there is no real way to test a transducer to know that it is working correctly or not without putting your boat in the water. You may be able to hear the transducer transmitting (ticking) but there could still be a problem with it.
Thanks Greg,
i hear it and assumed it meant it was ok,
its a mess for us amateur s
If you have it set to auto, or have the sensitivity and depth set way up, it will often give you a return off a concrete floor. The depth will be about 4.3 times the actual distance from transducer to floor though.
But I'd come up with excuse to take it to the lake.
My Lowrance is working great off the concrete floor,
Garmin nope,
I'll try it again but in the end, I'd rather be fishing than messing with electronic s
