Greenwood

Tried greenwood today without a whole lot of success. Pulled 1/16 oz jigs with a number 7 split shot at right around 1 mph. Lake was starting to mud pretty bad and a lot of floating trash and the wind made for some tough fishing. Caught around 8 crappie with only 4 being good solid keepers. They are in there new home lake Murray and I hope doing good. Fish are on brush and a lot of the big fish are scattered. With all I have been through it felt good to get out and fish. Might try looking for some bream beds on Murray as they are calling for high winds the rest of the week.

Glad you made it out on the water Don and were able to catch a few. And I'm sure the fish are glad you introduced them to Mr. Murray instead of Mr. Grease! lol! I think I'm going to do like you and look for bream beds next week while on vacation. Thanks for sharing.

Well I was thinking about going somewhere Friday, but I had not checked the forecast. We finally get rid of the monsoons and a gale blows in! Good grief.

Not a bad catch under the conditions Don, I know you'd rather be sitting in the boat a catching a few, than sitting in a hospital bed. Glad you was able to get out and enjoy the sunshine, congrats on the catch.

Sometimes it just isnt about the fish. Congrats on getting to enjoy some of God's creations by getting out in the sunshine & enjoying what we all love doing....fishing! :)

Fished Lake Murray yesterday daylight to dark. Water temp at 6 a.m before the sun is 68 degrees. Caught only 4 crappie shooting docks, gave it up. Used a 1/8 fire tiger rooster tail to put 22 big Bluegill in the cooler. No fish on beds yet, everything is a bit behind due to cold weather and cold nights. Fished the clear water areas specifically around Billy Dreher and Crystal lake. All fish came from around docks next to deeper water. Not a single Bluegill found in shallow water and all seem to be holding about 5 or 6 feet deep in the water column as they all hit out from the bank aways and seem to come up to hit that spinner.

Crappie and Bluegill becoming less and less each year. I am no fisheries biologist but I think the thousands of white perch that feed on other species eggs are doing great damage. I caught over a hundred white perch , they are everywhere.

At the moment the bigger Gills are still holding next to deep water. Slow retrieve, just as slow as you can run that roostertail and keep it spinning.

Good luck, no Gills on beds just yet.

Stop and buy some super glue. Gonna be windy Friday. You will need super glue to keep your hat on. Lol! I am going Friday also, but weatherman says 12 mph wind, which means 12 mph to 20 as the sun rises. I am headed for the Little Saluda that day, shoot the docks for whatever will bite. I catch a great many Gills shooting docks along with some good bass. Crappie sometimes but not like it used to be.

Thanks Kit for the update. I still haven't ben out on the water yet. Just don't have the get up and go like I had before the cancer surgery. I would like to get with you one day and fish for the gills. I live in Rocky creek and have two fishing boats and retired so pm me if you want to give it a try. Don
