trying to get my stepson's and wife's poles ready to go out on the boat. line on the reel came with the combo pre spooled and is already over year since weve had the poles. just wondering if any line works better than other on zebcos because right now they are a mess cant cast for nothing unless you have a bunch of weight and they still hangup even with a bunch of weight on there. Thats why I like my spinning reels lol :)
On Zebco 33's I always spooled with 10 or 12# trilene line (cant remember its been so long). Before spooling with new line I'd recommend disassembling the reel, clean, re-lube, and check for any marks on the spool that can catch the line when casting. Might have to sand it a bit to smooth it back up. Then they should work good as new.:)
I like the 10lb stren lo-vis green.
X2 on what butch said. 10-12lb trilene. If your talking about the underspins reels I'd say 4-6lb trilene.
the sandpaper and reel butter looks like it did the trick. of course I wont know till I put it back in action but its releasing smooth and spinning great. thanks for the advice. I dont think Ive actually fished with a zebco or spooled one in probably 15 years or so. Now that my wife and stepson are fishing with me have to get good at it again lol :)
Curious! What grit sandpaper do y'all use? I have a couple that need a little TLC.
i used 220 bc thats what I found in the store. seems like it worked good.
I dont know now. I used some really fine though as you dont want the spool to be scratched up when youre finished....rather you want it smooth. I remember that I used a small file (a fingernail file might do it too) to knock off any nicks and then sand it smooth. The spools are aluminum so it want take much.
