Does anyone know if the 1999 mercury 225 opti max had very many problems. I'm looking at a boat that has one and some have told me there were lot's of problems with them. Please respond if any info.

Take it to a good Mercury mechanic for compression test, check air compressor Have diagnostic check run, and whatever else he recommends. If buy it change impeller and lower unit oil.
Look closely at the condition of the oil in the lower unit.
