It's been years since I fished this lake in Macon. Has anyone fished it lately? I can tend to be a glutton for punishment, but sometimes I like to just challenge myself-but not if it will be a total recipe for disaster. Any reports or best methods to use?
I probably haven't tried it in 10 years myself. My wife and I used to catch a few crappie there but don't think we got many over 10 inches but I always kinda enjoyed that lake.
This is third or fourth hand but when fishing at T Hill earlier, I talked to a guy that said the Conservation Agent said the crappie are "better" at L. Branch based on anglers he checked last year. Sorry, I really don't have any better info.
If I am travelling to catch crappie I will stop at T Hill before L Branch. Good for carp bowfishing was also the comment..
Years ago I caught some pigs there but looking in the cleaning stations these days you don't see many over 9 inches cleaned.
Well- I Googled it- even the MDC says it sucks, so if even they admit it, it is probably true. "Crappie grow slowly at Long Branch Lake and a very small percentage reach a size desirable to anglers"
Such a waste- why don't they work on getting it up to par? It could bring some traffic to the Macon corridor. I wouldn't think it would be subject to dramatic water level changes like Twain is.
I assume it is due to turbid water. I doubt MDC can do much about that. It can come from many sources but N Missouri has lots of ground in crops and more CRP being plowed under..
Macon lake (right beside long branch) is amazing for crappie, I have been fishing it for years and always get a full stringer.
Is that a 15 or 30 fish lake? I fished it once last year for bass-might have to try for crappie!Quote:
