Too long?

On flies bring the chenille back to where the bend starts. besides that it looks good to me.

Looks good to me.
It is just the way I learned to tie flies Brett, you really can tie them how ever you want to and it will work. That one is tied to imitate a minnow so it has a long body. Taking the chenille all the way back gives it more of a profile.

Also a couple other things you can do are these....
first igf you like the lead wire idea, just use some regular chenille and not the Ultra chenille. The regular Rayon and Nylon will cover over the wire better with out showing a lot of a hump that I think the Ultra chenille will have.
One other thing you could use that would look great is some of Danville's FL Nylon Wool in place of the chenille. It's too small for jigs, but great on flies like the Crappie Candy!
One more thought, try just making the head with thread and no chenille in front of the eyes?

For me, its got too much tail and not enough body. But there are times when less is better and at other times, the opposite is true. Final Analysis.. if it catches fish, its great, if not.. back to the tying bench, Try it again another day.

i think on the whole, it's too long, if all that hair can be seen under water.
i love how the hair tapers but I've been trying to make fairly compact flys/ jigs.
Total length on this thing has to be at least 4 in.
