I have a 2003 75 and it will spin one way and not the other.
In reverse it should spin CCW and in forward CW.
started my motor on a hose and it had a low sounding rattle at low rpms,shifted fine.Talked to a local mechanic and he said prop should lock in both directions in reverse on my motor and im taking it to him next week to check out the rattle.Believe ive had the rattle since dec. when i hit a stump,but it sounds louder out of the water on the hose pipe,thanks
Your tech is correct. The mercs ratchet only in forward gear to allow the prop to free spin when decelerating quickly. Without it, the prop would act as a brake and the backlash of the gears would take the unit into self destruct.
Is the noise in the lower unit constant or only while in gear?
