my first report + spider rig update jackson lake
I probably should have put it off...but I been really wanting to try this spider rigging thing, so I opted to go close to home @ lake Jackson....arrived around 930 am with a pretty stiff breeze and a water temp of 58.8 degrees....made the run up to rocky creek and took my time getting my spread out and set up for the first time..... I then went up the Alchovy to the idle speed only area and found fish stacked in the 'S" turn...fish were suspended in 12-14 foot of water over an 18' bottom .....long story short I ended the day with only 6....all were caught in 12-16 foot of water....I did accomplish my task with testing my home-made rod holder and I actually did catch fish on the spider rig...tried to stay between .3 and .5 mph when the wind allowed, the I-Pilot did its job
the bites were mostly "unnoticeable" the rod would just sort of load up, I had 1 bite that was a FOR SURE bite but thats the one I slap missed.....all fish with the exception of one was small 6 or 7 inches long, the last one I caught was a solid keeper....
fished till about 330, by then the temps dropped to the point I couldnt stand it any more, and I noticed the water temp had dropped to just above 56 degrees
pictured below is my 6 rod spread on my homemade rode holder and the second is my 1st spider rig crappie!!!!
all in all it fun trying something new...hopefully it was the weather that had them lock jawed
