Boat repair help

I have a bass tracker fiberglass bass boat. It has ben taking on water and I found out where. Where the whole top piece of the boat sets on the bottom piece theres some kind of sealer, silicone, something or other stuff very hard. WHAT would be the best stuff to fix it with regular silicone or some thing else? I don't want to put something up in ther then it not work and I cant get it out easily. Any thoughts? I thought maybe vanteck windshield sealer might be good. I don't know for sure. Or maybe just take it to the shop and let them fix it. Thanks Weldon

Dreamer is it a visible spot on the boat? If not body shops use a two part epoxy called Panel Bond for repairing plastic and fiber glass. The stuff is super strong and sets really strong and is sand able and you can paint over it. comes in a mixing tube I believe you can buy smaller amounts of it from Napa. Hope this helps.

Im not sure where Brighton, MO is, d d, but I recently brought a fiberglass part off my boat to Shorelander Marine in Smithville, MO and they did a fantastic job repairing the piece. It looks brand new. they do excellent work. If it's a leaker and from the sounds of it, it might be a structural issue, I don't think I would mess around with it...and I like to do everything myself, just because it aggravates me to pay someone to do something that I can accomplish on my own. Plus that, I'm a tightwad! But, sometimes, it pays to have a professional take care of things...

Brighton is just north of Springfield.

If you want to go the professional route, you might try Truman Fiberglass repair. At one time I heard they were pretty good.

I built the Nitro's and worked at Truman Fiberglass in the past, all we used was good silicone after we put the rub rail on, Walmart sells a good 30 year silicone for around $6 a tube.

OK thanks guys. This leak is where the top hull part of boat sets on bottom part of hull right inside bump rail all the way around. But my leak is on both sides right behind my seat and it only leaks while running slow. I KNOW just go fast but I really want to fix it. I will go get some silicone thanks again. Weldon

Last time I talked to the owners they were closed. Next time I see the I will follow up with them and post an update.

Thanks fella I sealed it up with some 35 yr silicone last night. It may not work out it says 7-14 day cure time and im going to be on the water sunday.

Yep, Truman Fiberglass is CLOSED, out of business.
