Well headed out to Murray this morning, Fished from anywhere from 10-20 fow........No luck near Clouds, water pretty stained, So I headed to hollow.........caught some WP, but just can't find the crappie!
I'm obviously doing something wrong............LOL
Join the club. Some of the guys do pretty good on them, I have not broken the code. Seems right now, long lining is the way to go.
Murray is a magical place, sometimes it's wonderfully full of hungry fish and sometimes they've disappeared.

Well I tried my luck in and around Hollow Creek today also. And, I had the same luck you had. ZERO crappie, 1 ugly gar fish. One of these days I hope to figure the Murray crappie out. :banghead
Sounds like Lake Russell....one day you fill a cooler and the next day cant BUY a bite. Stay after 'em....it's gonna get better soon.

It will not be long, I have fished Murray many times over the years, not much here of late, but historically speaking the second week in March has always been good for me as a starting date. Water temps are important for spawning to begin, but length of day light hours is what triggers the fishes migration to the creeks and flats. One must trust his electronics, or have the experience to know when the fish are going to be where. Crappie are river fish by trait, so the upper part of the lakes are always a good place to start. If muddy conditions are present, move down lake until suitable stain is present. If your not seeing fish on the sonar, they either aren't present, or they are on the bottom. Focus on fish that are visible on the sonar, crappie are notorious suspenders. If you see groups of fish that are suspended in 20 to 30 feet of water, 10 to 15 feet down, these are catchable fish. Alter baits and boat speeds until you find something to their liking. If no takers, move to another location and repeat the process. I will guarantee that someone on that lake is, or has been catching some nice fish for a while now. You just got to know some of the primary starting points. Little Saluda, Bush river, in and around SCE&G #4, Hawleek, Rocky, and back in Buffalo around the creek fork are well known starting points.
Thanks for the info Tim........ I'm not gonna give up, I will succeed it just takes me a little longer cause I seem to have to find out where they aren't first...
I thought the heavily stained water might of pushed them back down river........ but they are prolly use to it, and it's my inexpeiriance over thinking the situation.
I need to also spend atleast a whole day just scouting with my electronics.........But thats tough to do when I can only fish one day a week...............
ny son jeremy and myself fished little saluda yesterday. did not start until around 10am. ended up with 13 decent crappie and four of the largest perch that I have ever caught. they were all over a pound each and fat. we probably caught another 20 small crappie that were short or just decided to let grow some more. pretty day on the water but slow fishing. still beats the heck out of anything else.
