TM questions
Bout to buy new fish finder for front of boat. Going with a DI unit, my question is, can you use a trolling motor transducer with a minn-Kota TM. I have a power drive TM with universal sonar, I know that I have a transducer for the DI. Since the TM slides thru the housing, do you use TM transducer or put it on the transom. If you use TM transducer, how do you rig wire and do use built in sonar on TM for 2d sonar or does TM transducer do both. Sorry for no better wording, but the changes in transducers are hard to keep up with. Thanks for any info.

They make a cable for a lot of units to connect to the built in transducer. I can send you pics of typical wire setup if needed.

I would like to see some pictures of that setup. I have two cables for the built-in transducer, one is for hummingbird and the other is for eagle/lowrance. I was looking to buy an 800 series hummingbird unit. Just trying figure what all I'll need to order. Thanks for the help.

Built in transducer is 2-D only
-
Johnboy, that's what I've been told bout built in transducer. Do you plug one cable to that for 2-d and run another transducer for DI?
-
If you want DI just use one. The DI transducer has both.

All the info I have seen and from using mine the downscan and dsi do not work well at trolling speeds.

So, am I wrong in thinking that people use down imaging while spider rigging. I thought DI was for seeing what is under you at any speed. I'm so far behind in the technology out there. Thanks for any help.

Rolemedown,
I have a hummimgbird 899 hd/si combo. Love it. However, from what I read, the sonar returns are so quick on that model that placing the transducer on a trolling would render it ineffective, due to how much the trolling motor head moves from side to side, and the speed of the returns. You can't get a true picture of whats under the boat, cause sonar returns are distorted due to movement of trolling motor head. if I was placing a transducer on a trolling motor I'd go with a cheaper version to simply see what's under me, and use a more expensive " fish finder" on the rear so that I could get the full visual picture that hd/si offers. Now if I had more money I'd get the new hummingbird 360 so I could see what's in front, the sides, and under me.
