First fish in the new old boat...

What a nice day on the water. Bistineau was pretty muddy and lots of current at a sizzling 45° water temp. Tough fishin. But I did manage to get the skunk out of the boat. Caught 2. Billy, the owner at Port o' Bistineau said those were the best numbers so far up to that time. a few boats came in with one - most with none. I left about 330.
Funniest thing happened too. Wish someone couldve been there to share a laugh, instead I sat in the boat cracking up by myself...went to stand up after moving to a new fishing spot.....used the old plastic steering wheel to get a little leverage to stand and *snap*...whole thing broke right off in my hands. Used the center piece to steer for the rest of the day...functional but it was hilarious...had another steering wheel in the shop in much better shape and its already fixed. Overall a great day..got to let the old boat stretch her legs for a few miles with no issues at all...minus a steering wheel. Attachment 194030Attachment 194028Attachment 194029

Why do they make plastic steering wheels in the first place. Kinda like the plastic wheels on my lawnmower. One broke off when I was mowing today. They sure don't make things like they used to unfortunately. Light weight and don't rust, but will crack in half, lol.

Well it was from a 1977 model.....but it was pretty flimsy to begin with...and 37 years had it pretty brittle...It looked in great shape...clean and white with the Cane Cuttler logo still plainly visible..Lets hope thats the last thing that decides to break like that..:yikes

Exactly...that was 90% of the purpose of that trip anyway...I knew the fishing was gonna stink...might as well get the bugs worked out. Ill be taking a veteran fishing on Darbonne on the 21st - cant have any surprises on that trip.
