Using the simulator mode on my HDS touch 7

This weather we are having has me stuck in the house going stir crazy so I decided to practice using my HDS 7 touchscreen since I have only had it in the water once before the weather got bad.
I have an extra power cable and I thought since I had a bunch of 120 to 12 volt chargers that were for 12 power tools battery charging I could use one of them and work with the DF indoors. No go, the transformers did not have enough amperage to power the DF so I ended up sitting in my car in the garage with it running off the cigar lighter. That works fine, but my question is what do some of you use to do this indoors? I guess a small trickle charger made for car batteries would have enough power, but wondered what other used.
The chargers I have were for a power drill and maybe a spot light, but as stated they did not have enough power to run the HDS unit.

I use a 12 volt power supply that's from Radio Shack. I think it's a 3 amp supply but I think about an amp is all you really need. I've heard of some guys using old laptop power supplies.

SeaRay ... I have an extra set of power/tdx cables for my Lowrance Elite 5DSI and run it in my home by using a portable jumper battery that I bought at Wally World a few years ago for around $30. I think this is the current version of that model unit : Amazon.com: Schumacher XP400 400 Peak Amp Instant Portable Power Source: Automotive

I don't know if I would expect it to jumpstart my truck battery, but for "playing" with my DSI unit .... it has worked out fine.

A small 12v deer feeder battery from Academy sports should power it for a while, but you may have to keep the charger on it to keep from killing the battery. The newer electronics can be "thirsty" little critters.

Hmmmm. Had not thought about the PC power supply. My current one(no pun intended) is 18.5 volt and 3 amp. The input for the DF is 12 to 18 volts. Might look for some older ones I have somewhere and see if any are 12 volts. The 18.5 might be OK, but I don't won't to fry my DF.
