Headded to disney in 3 weeks. We are staying at Fort wilderness campground. U just found out u can fish for free in the campground in the canals. Any body ever fish this area. Def gona bring a rod or two. What are some good baits/ colors. Gona be alittle limited on how much tackle I can bring. Thanks
Never fished em or seen em. But if connected to the other lakes around Disney it should be pretty clear water. If natural probably heavily tanin stained. Good luck and post up how ya make out.
A friend camps there all the time & has heard of bass being caught but no specks.
I have lived nine miles east of Disney my whole life and never heard of anyone catching any Crappie out there. there are several good lakes within a 30 minute drive if you have a boat or would be willing to rent one.
I only have a hour or two to fish in the mornings before we head into the parks. I just read that there are canals throughout the campground that u can fish for free without a license. Last time I was at Disney we stayed at caribbean beach resort and if them canals and lake are connected to the one at caribbean beach it should be great. I didn't fish there buy it was loaded with huge largemouth and lots of crappies. What are good colors down there?
Right now blues seem to be the hot ticket, at least on Toho.

Not a problem, one of the greatest lessons dad taught me was fishing holes and baits are not top secret, pass it along and the Speck gods will smile on you.
I fished them a very long time ago while working there on the Treehouses. Made about 7 casts, first 3 got me 1 bass, 1 bream, and 1 speck. At the 7th cast a voice said" you're not allowed to fish here". Mr Buzzkill security guard. Those canals all connect and were stocked in the 70's and not fished for 8 yrs while the populations stabilized, so I was told later. The bass guides are expensive to my likings but if they let you fish, don't forget Beetle spins and Rapala's. Long casts will generate strikes from fish that haven't been spooked yet. Normally no noise where they are so be as quiet as you can. Some are large so keep one stout rod for those.
My family and I have been going to the campgrounds since I was a kid and now take my daughter there too. As far as a Crappie I've never caught any in the canals there however as some have said there are plenty of bass and bream in them. The fishing isn't as good as it used to be I think mainly cause there is a lot more pressure. I think back 20 years and it was just my redneck family we ever saw fishing when we were there.
As far as the main lake there is phenomenal bass fishing. I've done it with their guides before which isn't too bad when you consider they include the shiners in that cost regardless of how many you use. My dad, brother and I went in ecember when we were there and caught i think close to 40 bass in the 2 hours.
If you want to go after some good bass fishing without the cost and don't mind bending the rules. I would recomend getting up early like 3 or 4 in the morning and going down to the dock that the boat that goes to the magic kingdom is at and flipping all around it with plastics or working around it with your favorite topwater.
