Murvaul is an excellent choice for crappie fishing. I have a place in Jones branch which is the large pocket near the public launch. It is just starting to get good in "the branch" but the whole month of March is a good time to go. Spawn will be over no later than April 30th. Launch at the free public ramp which is located off 1970, also called Decker-Hill recreational area and Murvaul Marina {locals call it Stovall's}. Please be sure your boat and trailer are salvania free. The lake is and we want to keep it that way. You may purchase shiners here. No need to go past the islands out to the main lake, there will be more wind and less fish. I would start my day trying in the shallow reeds on the right side of the island visible from the launch. Don't try the whole island, just the right side. I then would work my way down the branch fishing near the bottom around boathouses and piers, fishing shallow along the bank in between piers in search of spawners. My place has a diving board on the end of the pier, say hello and we can swap fishing reports. Please keep in mind the entire "branch" is a no wake zone. Let me know if I can help any further
I too have a place in Jones Branch, do just what edy said. The bridge has been good but you have to get there very early to get a spot. Those who are late will just pile in on you. The branch will have all the fish you want.
Edy, I'm right at the no wake pole half way up the branch. We but a new boat house three years ago and a deck along the back of the house. I live in Houston and get up there when we can. If you ever see me there stop in and say hello.
I'm from Shreveport, Nitro. I caught 13 big ones in the boathouse yesterday{2\20\15}. Man at the marina said the bridge also. He said he was told the bite stopped at 9 a.m. and no point going back till after 4 p.m. Anyone fishing the bridge will want to look at the map and find the boat launch located next to it. I still would rather fish the Branch.
