The water overfilled the ice maker trays and they froze. When you banged on it, it breaks the ice from the overflow loose and drops the ice. Been there, done that. [emoji4]

Ours messes up sometimes and it does it alot when coils are dusty. I have had to take a hair dryer and thaw it out a few times.
