Hey, Im new to crappie.com and have only limited knowledge on Crappie fishing though im hoping to get into it big time now that I have moved to Indianola. I was looking for some help. Im headed down to Starkville this weekend and im not going to be able to pull my boat. I was hoping to be able to at least do a little bank fishing at Oktibbeha if its even worth it. Any one have any tips off the bank this time of year down there? Thank you, Panfishdawg
Oktibbeha is now a private lake KOA bought it and now you have to have a yearly pass to fish it

The Tenn-Tom waterway is a great nearby fishery but unfortunately you can't do much bank fishing there. Especially this time of year.
Yeah. I sure wish I could bring my boat. What about th refuge? I know there are a few good looking lakes out there. Just disn't know if anyone ever bank fished it? Are there any special regulations. I sure appreciate the comments.

The refuge lakes are closed to fishing from October until March 1st. Crazy federal regs on that place. Some monster fish are there and the cooler months would be great fishing, but they would rather manage it for the ducks.
If I had a boat I would offer you a seat for the weekend. I'm busy rebuilding the home and haven't replaced my boat yet. Maybe some other time.
Thanks for the offer. I'm down for most the games and the odd weekend or two. I hope to find some good places to fish. I'd have my boat any other weekend, so I'm going to have to give the Tenn Tom a try for sure. I think you could wear the crappie out at the refuge too.

The "River" or what non-locals call the Tenn-Tom is gonna be where you need to go. Plenty of fish to be caught, they tend to average smaller than the northern lakes but are very strong and eat good. That's where I go to fill my freezer, then to Nader for biggun's. If you can figure out how to catch 1 to 1 1/2 lb fish on the river with any consistency, you can catch crappie anywhere at anytime.
I would go to the Oktibbiha and ask the guy at the desk I am sure he would let you fish he is a pretty nice guy also it is some good bank fishing in April in the grass beds around the lake just a lot of short fish and very few good fish anymore it has gotten over populated good luck to you!!!
