I have been trying to think about doing everything to bulletproof my boat since I got it last season and was thinking of Deleting the Oil Injection sytem,,,, It was replaced just a year or two ago by dealer, but it still scares me knowing these Mercury 200 EFI motors have plastic drive gears... So if they go out,,, Toast! anyone do this to their Mercury engines?

Cheap insurance. First thing done on mine when bought was to take it out. I dont mind mixing the oil--I like a little smoke :)
Now mine is carbed--not sure if it's required with EFI--but if not delete that puppy.
Better do so research. On some of those injected motors it is not a option.
If its not broke don't fix it. There are many thousands of those motors out there still running just fine.
Too many of the top motor heads say leave it alone. Just replace the impeller each spring so it wont over heat. Wouldnt hurt to change the thermo's every other year. Cheap insurance.
Just pour a( cap full) not very much. of oil to every other tank fill up. Change plugs once a year.Smoke's a little but it is being oiled. Also use STA-Bil for outboards every other tank it has a little oil in it also. Has worked so far. Got a 1993 model 200 EFI. Knock on wood no problems.
One thing people forget about on this. Oil lines change those out every 3 years or so. I can tell you how much a $2. hose can cost. AS it cost me a new 150 Mercury years ago. Did not even give it any thought. Motor was 5 years old and hose cracked. Letting it suck air and not inject the oil.

I have an 88 150 mariner that I had it deleted. Carb motor, I know schnitna about EFI so go with those that know. We call that smoke redneck perfume.
I have a 1999 mercury 200 efi, oil injection has been deleted. There is a reason most of them up to 2002 have been deleted. I don't mind mixing gas and oil.
